Learn How to Create Nonformal Learning Programs from the Founder and Director of the World Language and Culture Program, University of Wyoming

An Essential Online Course in Nonformal Learning in International Education

Looking to create internationalization at home programs on a shoestring budget but don't know where to start? In this course, you'll learn about the concepts, history, and applications of nonformal learning programs and enhance your internationalization at home strategy.

Nonformal learning happens outside the classroom, and it’s not compulsory. It’s learner-centered, guided by a facilitator, and often co-created with participants. Examples include language exchanges, buddy programs, and other experiential learning groups and activities.

This asynchronous, self-paced course is about 12 hours to complete and includes:

  • 4 Modules on nonformal learning in international education, including readings, case studies, podcasts and videos
  • 2 on-demand video lectures and task guidance
  • Facilitator guidance and support
  • Participation in a Padlet platform to connect, ask questions, or exchange ideas about nonformal learning
  • Final Project

Optional: 1 task on review of a nonformal learning case study using Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, or Threats (SWOT) analysis.

Optional participation in the Google Jamboard to reflect on case studies.
