Dr. Rebecca Hovey

Director, Early Career Research Fellows Program

Rebecca Hovey is an experienced scholar-practitioner in the related fields of international higher education and global studies. She is Director of the Office of Study Away at Trinity College (CT). She directs GlobalEd's Early Career Research Fellows Program.

As Dean for Global Studies of the Lewis Global Studies Center at Smith College from 2010 – 2022 she was responsible for strategic oversight and leadership of global learning opportunities in study abroad, operational oversight of the Lewis Global Studies Center, and general risk management for students abroad and international students enrolled at Smith College. She previously served as Dean of SIT Study Abroad for World Learning from 2001-2008 where she provided global operational oversight and academic leadership for the SIT portfolio of over 60 study abroad programs in more than 40 countries.

Rebecca holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University’s College of Architecture, Art, and Planning in the field of International Development Studies.Her current intellectual focus is the advancement of culturally informed solutions to global social justice and sustainable futures for a shared planet. To this end, she integrates work in critical pedagogy, intercultural understanding, and deep ecology.

Review

Rebecca co-founded NAFSA's Global Studies Literature Review -- is a peer-reviewed publication of thought leadership. Each issue focuses on a timely topic of interest with feature essays and book reviews written by a wide variety of voices—faculty members, independent researchers, international education professionals, and graduate students
